"I am the LORD, and there is no other; apart from me there is no God. I will strengthen you, though you have not acknowledged me, so that from the rising of the sun to the place of its setting men may know there is none besides me. I am the LORD, and there is no other."
Isaiah 45:5-6
As 2008 comes to an end, I am continually amazed by God's love for me. It is so refreshing to know that when I struggle with the storms of life, he is there for me. When I feel overwhelmed, he is ever present. When I am weak, he gives me strength. He is almighty, omnipotent, and powerful to love, forgive, save, and protect. He is GOD!
What keeps you from seeking God? Is it a lack of faith? Is it selfishness? Is it possessions? Is it a "I can handle it myself" attitude? What keeps you from knowing the most precious and fulfilling love you will ever find? He is there to heal your heart, give you peace, and fill you with joy unspeakable. In 2009, my prayer is that you will let go and let God! God is never a disappointment! His plan is sovereign and real...just like his love. Happy New Year!

A Thankful Heart
"Lord, I will thank you with all my heart...and will thank you for your love and loyalty. You have made your name and your word greater than anything." Psalm 138:1-2
Each year on Thanksgiving, I take time to reflect on all the blessings God has bestowed upon me...even when I don't deserve it! His love is so amazing. Think about it. Who else is willing to extend their love and forgiveness to you when you fall short, disappoint, and continually put your own selfish wants and desires first?
As a Christian, I am a work in progress. I don't pretend to be perfect and I certainly don't pretend to have all the answers. However, my heart's desire is to seek, learn, and strive to know Christ in a very personal way. Simply put, I want to grow.
In addition to reading God's word, I find myself starting to read more books. One of the books I am reading right now is called, "Small Changes for a Better Life", by Elizabeth George. The book gives practical ways to living God's plan for your life. You know, the things we know we should do as Christians, but have a hard time putting into practice. One of my favorite parts of the book is where Mrs. George gives a acrostic formula for maturing spiritually. Here's an excerpt:
G-R-O-W-T-H
G-Give your life to Jesus Christ. When you ask Jesus to become Lord of your life, the Holy Spirit begins to do a work in you. This is the foundation for growing closer to Christ.
R-Recognize the sin in your life. What sin is present in your life that hinders you from growing closer to Christ? What sin secrets do you keep hidden from your friends and family, but can't be covered from Christ's eyes?
O-Overcome spiritual laziness. Because we are human, God has given us the freedom to choose. We have choices to make daily. As a Christian who desires growth, I have to make choices that will cultivate growth, not hinder it. If I feed myself worldly garbage, that's what I become. My attitude starts to stink and I become a complacent Christian who just shows up for church and gets nothing out of God's word. BORING!
W-Work out a method and rate for growth. Start to feed on God's word daily, listen to Christian music, read books, write a blog...find something that works for you. Basically, keep your eyes on Christ.
T-Try to find a mentor or accountability partner. Surround yourself with people who will tell you the truth which is biblically based, not just what you want to hear.
H-Have a life-long mentality about spiritual growth. If you want to grow closer to Christ, you have to make a commitment to walk with him daily. He is our friend. Do we choose to ignore the friends that we work with, go to church with, or meet in school? No. We have created a relationship with our friends through communication, mutual respect, and love. Doesn't Christ deserve the same?
Growth in Christ, for me, is the ultimate thank you I can give to him this Holiday season. For salvation, for his unconditional love, for all that he is to me, I give thanks!
May you remember "Jesus Loves You" this Thanksgiving and Christmas season!

"Judgemental Christians"
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you. Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' and behold, the log is in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your own brother's eye." Matthew 7:1-5
Did you know that verse is one of the most quoted scriptures of the bible? Especially, by non-believers. Oh, they may claim to "believe in God", but they don't know what it is like to have a true relationship with Jesus Christ. This verse is commonly used as a defense to keep them away entering church doors and surrendering their lives. Why? Because they claim Christians are too judgemental and are hypocrites. The truth is...most of us are! Let me explain.
First of all, Christians aren't perfect. If you claim to be, you need some prayer because you are dead wrong! Christians are human. We sin daily. The difference is...Christians strive to be Christ-like and try to walk in holiness. They display fruits of the spirit (love, joy, peace patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Galatians 5:22-24) When Christians sin, they know it, acknowledge it, ask for forgiveness, and move on.
There are people who claim to be Christians, but lack the fruits of the spirit...especially love. If you have ever had a person try to point out your faults and short-comings, when you know they are guilty of the same, you know what I'm talking about. They are speaking from a heart of self-righteousness and not of love. Sometimes, those same people are not guilty of the same, but feel the need to crush your spirit every time they get a chance. Here's an example. I know a person who believes she is a Christian, but recognizes there is an aspect of her life that is not pleasing to God. It's sin. Someone that knows her and sees her occasionally (who claims to also be a Christian) always brings up that "sinful aspect" every chance she gets. While she is right about the "sinful aspect", her motives for always bringing it up certainly does not from a place of love, but from a place of "I'm better than you." YUK! This behavior really disgusts me because when non-believers see this behavior, they are quick to categorize all Christians this way.
As a Christian, I do want other Christians to point out to me if I'm not living the way I should. However, it should be done in a loving way...not with selfish motives. That's not an attitude of Christ. Christ doesn't beat you down to get you accept his salvation. He is there with open arms and ready to love you.
When you truly have Christ in your heart, a funny thing happens. All those gray areas in the world, soon become black or white. You do become less tolerant of things that aren't pleasing to Christ. I know this because it has happened to me. I willingly admit I know I've become more "judgemental" about certain issues (abortion, gay rights, just to name a few). It's because I strive to live a life that is holy and pleasing to God. I want my daily choices to honor God, not my flesh. Am I perfect? Absolutely not! But I do try to be a better person.
The truth is...the Bible is very clear on how to live as a Christian and the road to heaven is narrow. (Matthew 7:13-14) The bible is our road map for navigating through life. We may not like all it says and often think it doesn't apply to life today. NEWSFLASH! It does. Christ died for our sins by shedding his blood on a cross. I think he has earned the right to tell us through his word how we should live and what he considers to be right or wrong. Unfortunately, society doesn't want to hear that message. Because of this, there will be several people, including your friends and family, that will perish in eternal hell, because they refused the truth.
It's our job as Christians to reach out with love to others and share the love of Jesus Christ. Once the seed is planted, he will do the rest.

"Fireproof Your Marriage"
"Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her." Ephesians 5:25
If you haven't had a chance to see the movie "Fireproof", get to the nearest movie theatre this weekend! It's one of the best movies I've ever seen. Be prepared though...you will be challenged to look at your marriage in a new light.
Without giving too much of the plot away, let me just say this movie is for you if you can identify with the following topics:
Troubled relationship or marriage
Anger
Disrespect
Adultery
Loneliness
Independence
Internet porn
Unforgiveness
Selfishness
In need of a miracle
Salvation through Jesus Christ
This movie will make you realize how the love of Jesus Christ can help you overcome the many obstacles we place in the path of our own lives. Through Jesus, we learn how to love and be loved. We become changed. Our wants and desires are made new. We are forgiven and can extend forgiveness to others...especially our loved ones.
Speaking from experience, a marriage can never work if Christ is not the head of your relationship. Picture a triangle. If God is at the top of the triangle and the husband and wife make up the lower points, the triangle is complete. The husband and wife are equal. As the husband and wife seek Christ as the head of their relationship, they move closer to him and closer to each other. Hence, they move closer to the top of the triangle. If Christ is not the head of the relationship, eventually, they husband and wife will drift further apart and the triangle will no longer have equal sides.
If you are in a state of discord with your spouse, let me challenge you to examine your relationship. Do you willingly invite Christ into your marriage? Wives, do you willingly allow your husband to assume their role as the head of the house or do you control every aspect? Husbands, are you the spiritual leader of your home or does your walk not match your talk? We have a responsibility to ourselves and the commitment we made before God to honor our marriage. That means that sometimes we need to bite our tongues, stop thinking me, myself and I, and think we and ours. What can I do for you? How are your feeling? What are your needs? When you consider these things, you will see a change in your relationship.
I've learned the hard way that love is more than a feeling, it's a choice! We can choose to fall in and out of love. We can choose to be defeated. We can choose to be sucked into the world or we can choose Christ.
Choosing Christ is always the right answer...the right answer for you and the right answer for your relationship!

Happy Anniversary!
"...I found the one my heart loves..." Song of Solomon 3:4
5 years ago today, Scott and I were married on a beach as the sun was setting in the distance. Our lives became one in the presence of God, family, and friends. A perfect day to say the least.
Since that day, our lives has changed so much. We have chosen to surrender our lives to Christ and to accept his will for our family. In doing so, we have grown closer together as husband and wife. Our love for one another is immeasurable. Our relationship is secure. We have FINALLY found the secret to a solid marriage...choosing to serve Jesus Christ.
I love you Scott!!! You, Ashton, and Lawsen are my miracles that God gave to me to treasure here on earth.

"The Goal"
"I do not mean that I am already as God wants me to be. I have not yet reached the goal, but I continue trying to reach it and make it mine. Christ wants me to do that, which is the reason he made me his. Brothers and sisters, I know that I have not reached that goal, but there is one thing I always do. Forgetting the past and straining toward what is ahead. I keep trying to reach the goal and get the prize for which God called me through Christ to the life above."
Philippians 3:12-14
As I become more mature in Christ, I realize I want more. I'm not happy with just showing up for church on Sundays, worshiping God, and going home. Being a Christian is so much more than that. It's a continual relationship with God that flourishes through prayer and reading the word. It's having an attitude of praise, whether you are with other Christians or by yourself. It's not about "look at me", it's about look at what Christ can do when you surrender your life to him.
If you have truly accepted Jesus Christ into your heart, you can't possible be the same person you once were. You should have a changed heart. Your thoughts, your actions, your goals all become different. Your wants and desires change. You want to be pleasing to Christ and want to learn more about him. The gray areas of your personal opinions and convictions become more black and white. You stop riding the teeter totter of life that has one foot in the world and the other occasional seeking God. It's a sanctification process that people who don't believe won't understand. You'll be called judgmental and radical. You will be condemned and ostracized at times. Is it hard to be a Christian? Absolutely! But I believe in a God who sent his son to die upon a cross and forgive my sins, so that I could have everlasting life. How many of your friends, co-workers, or family members would do that for you? Now that's radical.
If you claim to be a Christian, start acting like one! Many people refuse to come to Christ because they are turned off by the words and actions of so-called Christians. Anger, gossip, and arrogance are the very things that cause the world to view Christians as hypocrites. I don't want to be viewed as that type of Christian. I want the world to see the love and compassion of Christ in all I do and say. We need to get serious about our commitment to Christ and the way that we live. Do Christians sin? Absolutely! But if you claim to be a Christian, you won't want to stay in your sin for very long.
Start running the race that Christ has called you to run. Press on to the top of the steep hills and catch your breath as you go down the other side. Cry out to Jesus to help you overcome the battles within you. Strive to reach the ultimately goal...everlasting life with your father in heaven!

"Shine Your Light"
"You are the light that gives light to the world." Matthew 4:14
Every Tuesday night, a group of faithful Promise Land members gather at 6:30 p.m. to shine their light in the world through visitation. I have to admit, I've never been a big fan of visitation. I've always felt like it's a bit intrusive. Most people don't want to be bothered by people they don't know when they come home from work and are trying to relax. Boy, have I been wrong! God has certainly given me the one, two punch on this one.
It wasn't until last night that I began to realize visitation can help the people who maybe don't go to church or who feel intimidated by coming before a large group of people to accept Christ. Visitation often allows people a chance to meet Jesus in the comfort of their own homes, where they are most vulnerable.
Last night was an incredible night for one man who has been struggling with alcoholism. After being sober for over 100 days, he was on the verge of taking another drink. He wanted so badly to abstain, but the chains of his addiction were overwhelming. Throughout the day, he had even called a friend to stay with him until his wife came home to prevent him from giving in to the power of alcohol. He was depressed, fearful, and broken.
Knock, knock...here come the faithful Promise Land members, bringing the gospel of Jesus Christ and shining their light on someone in need. To make a long story short, the chains of addiction were broken last night. The man who had been so close to taking another drink, drank of the living water and was healed! He cried out to Jesus and asked for forgiveness and was saved. He has a new life in Christ and will never be the same!
I challenge you to share your faith and be the light we have been called to be. Don't be fearful of what people may think. Through Jesus Christ, you have the power to change lives!
P.S. Pray for our Visitation ministry. They need our support, encouragement, and prayers weekly.

"He Knows"
"I say this because I know what I am planning for you, says the Lord. I have good plans for you, not plans to hurt you. I will give you hope and a good future. Then you will call my name. You will come to me and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will search for me. And when you search for me with all your heart, you will find me!" Jeremiah 29:11-13
Ever wonder why you go through "bad" things in life? I know I do. And I must admit, my first instinct is to cry out...why me? I'm a good person. I didn't ask for this. It's not fair. Sound familiar?
As I grow in Christ, I'm beginning to see, it's not always about me or my selfish wants and desires. It's all about him! What we consider to be "bad" things may ultimately be a "good" thing for us or for someone else. God is in control and knows what he is doing.
Consider this...God may be using the storm in your life to bring you to the point where you are broken and ready to be accepting of his will for your life. When we have our own agendas, he can't do his work. He needs us to be open and willing to listen.
He may also be using the storm in your life to help someone else. Today the Lord used me to help someone that is going through a similar storm that I experienced 20 years ago. How crazy is it that God knew 20 years ago that I would be sharing my experience with someone else today? That just blows my mind. That's how awesome our God is!
While God's plans are not always the plan we would have for ourselves, it's always the better path. If you are making choices that you know are not pleasing to God, search your heart and repent! Everyone sins (both Christians and non-believers). The difference is, if you are a Christian, you feel convicted and ashamed. You won't want to bathe in your sin for too long before you realize you need to take a bath. Ask the Lord to forgive you and you will be forgiven.
The Lord tells us in Jeremiah that if we search for him, we will find him. We just need to ask. It's then that we will begin to see the plans he has laid out for us and the work he is doing in our lives.
Good or bad, our experiences make us who we are. Allow the Lord to move in your life in a mighty way using your experiences to change your life and help others in need.

Change My Heart
"Create in me a pure heart, God, and make my spirit right again." Psalm 51:10
I think this verse best describes my daily prayer. When you become a Christian, you aren't closed off from the rest of the world. Sin is all around. It's the basic philosophy of "garbage in, garbage out". If we allow ungodly things of this world to corrupt our minds and spirit, we will become hardened to the truth in God's world. Your views become clouded and you become more accepting of the things that God clearly says are not acceptable (adultery, a deceitful tongue, unforgiveness, anger, envy, selfish ambition, idolatry, jealousy...the list goes on) Think of what we see on TV, billboards, magazines, etc. Ask yourself if they are pleasing to God. Ask yourself if they could possibly affect the way you think, feel, and treat others.
My prayer is that my heart be changed so that others can see the love of Christ in me. As Christians, we are called to be a light in the world. If we are acting like the world, how we do that?
As Christ does a work in us, we should start to recognize some of our character traits change. Here's a few character traits God is working with me on right now:
Availability vs. Self-centeredness - Adjusting my personal responsibilities around the needs of those whom I am serving. (Philippians 2:20-21)
Compassion vs. Indifference - Investing whatever is necessary to heal the hurts of others. (1st John 3:17-18)
Endurance vs. Giving Up - The inward strength to withstand stress to accomplish God's best.(Galatians 6:9)
If you ask Christ to change your heart and truly want him to do a work in you, he will! Always remember, you have a new life in Christ and we are a reflection of him.
*The description and explanation of character traits was copied from "Couples in the Bible" by Sylvia Charles. VERY GOOD BOOK!

Running From God???
"Don't you know that friendship with the world is hatred toward God? Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God." James 4:4
Ouch! This one really hurts! If you ever wondered what God thinks of you as you dibble in the things of the world, here's your answer.
God can only tolerate your behavior for so long. Many of us call ourselves Christians, but run into the arms of the world seeking guidance from unsaved friends, pleasure, numbness to pain, and selfish desires. The truth is...we should be running into the arms of Christ. He will give us the "replacements" we are searching from the world.
I know it may sound easy, but it's not. Nobody ever said that once you accept Christ as your Savior, you won't be tempted. Temptations are everywhere and Satan knows this. There are things I struggle with daily. The key is to overcome temptations by walking daily with Christ.
The first thing you should do is get in the word. If you don't have a Bible that you can understand and comprehend, get one. It makes a world of difference. I can honestly say I never read God's word and got it until the last few years. Part of the reason is because my heart is finally in the right place and ready to accept his directions for living. The other part is because I use 3 different Bibles to help me understand what God's word really means.
The next thing you should do is pray. Prayer is very important to Godly living. Talk to God like he is a friend, even if you think you don't make any sense. He knows your heart and longs to hear from you.
Praise and worship is equally important. It's more than just singing. It's an attitude that nurtures the spirit within to bear the fruits that God intends for you to share with others. Galatians 5 tells us that we are to have the fruits of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, and self-control.
When you run from God, you are causing destruction to yourself. In most cases, the damage is to the body, soul, and spirit. Recognize that Satan wants to destroy your new life in Christ. Stop running and start fighting the spiritual battle that rages inside you. Through Christ, you will always win!
"I can do all things though Christ because he gives me strength." Philippians 4:13.
LIVE IT...BELIEVE IT...CLING TO IT! There is always hope in Jesus Christ!

True Healing
"He was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed." Isaiah 53:5
Nine Years ago yesterday would have been my mom's 61st birthday. Nine years ago today, my mom was healed of cancer. The Lord called her home on a Friday morning shortly after 7 a.m. There was no reluctance on her part. She willingly went. In fact, just days before slipping into a coma, I can remember her telling me how she was ready to see Jesus. How different the last nine years must have been for her.
While it's never easy to say goodbye to a loved one, it's much easier to accept when you know their pain has been replaced by peace and their suffering is over. More importantly though, death is always easier to accept when you know your loved one has confessed they are a sinner and that Jesus Christ is Lord. I can confidently tell you that my mom had assurance of her salvation and where she would spend eternity.
Anticipating the anniversary of her home going, the Lord has been reminding me of scripture and bringing to my memory the reality of death and the debt that he paid so that we would have eternal life. Isaiah 53 is the perfect example of what Christ did for you and me. He was beaten, humiliated, and rejected so that our sins would be forgiven and grace would be bestowed upon us, if we would confess him as Lord. What an incredible, awesome act of kindness and love. As unbelievers, we are self-absorbed and unworthy to be loved. As Christians, we are forgiven and healed from the sins that once consumed us. That's why Christ bore the pain and punishment. He wanted us to be healed from our past sin, awakened by his amazing love, and willing to serve a living Savior. By having faith, I know that Christ is alive today and that my mom has true healing and a new life with him.
Happy Birthday Mom! I miss you and love you with all of my heart!

Great Expectations
Have you ever heard the phrase, "unfulfilled expectations lead to upset"? You hear it a lot in the business world. We actually apply this concept in our office to improve staff relations and customer service. So what does it mean, you ask? Think of it this way. If you don't know what is expected of you, you will eventually find yourself dissatisfied and disappointed. The expectations you have for yourself aren't always what others expect from you.
The relationship between a husband and wife is the perfect example. Ladies, your husbands can't read your mind. You have to communicate with them and let them know what you are thinking. If you are feeling overwhelmed and need help with the kids, you have to express your feelings and let your husbands know what they can do to help relieve the stress. I promise they will be more than willing to help, if they know what you expect of them.
Expectations give you a road map and help direct your path. As Christians, our expectations are laid out in God's word. While society argues that the Bible is a washed up book with inaccurate stories, I beg to differ. I believe the Bible to be full of promise and suggestions for living a fulfilling life.
"All scripture is given by God and is useful for teaching, for showing people what is wrong in their lives, for correcting faults, and for teaching us how to live right. Using the scriptures, the person who serves God will be capable, having all that is needed to do every good work" 2nd Timothy 3:16-17.
What kind of life do you want to live? Fulfilled and forgiven or empty without expectations?

Give Thanks!
"It is good to give thanks to the Lord and to sing praises to your name, O Most High." Psalm 92:1
Vacation is over and it's back to reality. Schedules...jobs...the daily balancing act. All of which I am thankful for. As I returned to work this week, I was thanking God I had a job to return to. Many parents I consulted this week about dental care for their kids were either about to loose their jobs, had already been working less hours, or just simply could not afford to have another bill. If you haven't heard, times are tough for a lot of people right now. When you have to make a decision between paying for gas and food or taking your child to the dentist, you know things aren't good.
Feeling the burden of financial strain is one of the most difficult situations many people face today. It's hard to fathom that you work 40 hours a week and your pay check is gone before it gets to the bank. Believe me, I've been there. Not so long ago, I lost a house and vehicle because of poor planning, bad judgment, and not living in God's will. The divorce from my 1st husband left me broken and in bankruptcy. During that time, I can't say I was living for Christ, but I can tell you I was thankful for what I still had.
Looking back, I don't know why Christ chose to keep his hand on my life and bless me. I never became homeless and always had reliable transportation to get back and forth to work. I remember praying and crying out to God - why me? But I never said forgive me, I am a sinner.
The last thought in our fleshy minds is to say "thanks" when times are hard. I know now, I needed to get to a low point so I could look up and seek God. I can't do things on my own. I need the Lord to give me strength and stability. If you are going through a situation that you can't work out on your own, maybe it's time to allow Christ to intervene in your situation. Thank him for what your have, pray for forgiveness, ask him into your heart, and surrender your life to the King. What can you loose?

Something Majestic
"In the beginning God created the sky and the earth." Genesis 1:1
I recently watched a movie where the main character, who was dying of cancer, created a list of all the things he wanted to do before he died. One of the things on his list was to witness "something majestic". The something he was referring to was Mount Everest.
As I sit on the back porch of our rental cabin in the mountains, I feel I've witnessed something majestic...God's creation. From where I'm sitting, I see mountains for miles. I see the still waters of the lake that show the reflection of the trees in the illuminating sun. I feel the cool brisk breeze sweeping across my face. It's so peaceful!
If you haven't taken the time to enjoy the outdoors and witness the beauty of God's creation, you have to put it on your list of things to do. Whether you are in the mountains, at the beach, or even taking a walk in your neighborhood, remember to thank God for this beautiful land we call home and for all of the blessings he has bestowed upon you!

Get Thirsty!
"I spread out my hands to you; my soul thirsts for you like a parched land." Psalm 143:6
How often do you thirst for God? Is it when times are tough? Is it when you have no hope? Why is it that most of us wait until we are at our wits end to cry out to God...especially when he loves us sooooo much.
If we truly know God, he is our comforter and friend. He is the deepest well we could ever find to quench the thirst of our soul. As I draw closer to God, I find that I'm at peace in his presence. For me, that's reason enough to spread my hands out to him on a daily basis.
It's not always easy though. I am human after all. I struggle with my flesh just like most of you. That's why we need to surround ourselves with other believers that can remind us to get focused on God's word and get back in his presence.
LaBrena and I have a rule....5 minute pity party, when necessary. Get it out and get back to God. He loves you and me and longs for us to have a close relationship with him. After all, he is God. Don't you think we owe it to him?

Saving A Household
Did you know that it's God's will for our loved ones to be saved? 2nd Peter 3:9 tells us that God doesn't want anyone to be lost. It's his desire that people change their hearts and come to repentance.
Many times family members ask Jesus to come into their hearts because of the prayers and example of just one individual. How does your walk and talk speak to your family? Are you luke warm and riding the fence or can they see your desire to be Christ like and serve him?
Here are somethings that we can do to encourage our family members to find Jesus:
1. Live righteous (1st Timothy 4:12; 1st Peter 3:1)
2. Intercede on their behalf (Ezekiel 22:30-31; Job 22:29)
3. Obey God (Matthew 28:18-20)
4. Claim the scriptures for them (Acts 2:39; Psalm 102:28; Jeremiah 31:16-17)
5. Share the Gospel (Romans 10:14-15)
6. Take authority over Satan (2nd Corinthians 4:3-4)
Remember, as much as you love your unsaved loved ones, God loves them even more!

Getting A Heart Transplant
Scott always says that when Christ came into his heart, he received a heart transplant. I can attest to that. I watched my husband change before my eyes. Past hurts, disappointment, and conflict were gone. Christ replaced those feelings with forgiveness, peace, and immeasurable joy.
Our hearts are very telling. They tell others who we are and what we believe. If we truly want Christ to do something powerful in our lives, we need pray that our hearts will be changed, conformed, and molded into the likeness of his image. Here are some scriptures to help us do so:
Believe with all your heart. (Romans 10:10)
Above all else, guard your heart. (Proverbs 4:23)
Love God with all your heart. (Matthew 22:37)
Set apart Christ as Lord in your heart. (1 Peter 3:15)
Observe God's decrees and laws with all your heart. (Deuteronomy 26:16)
Trust in the Lord with all your heart. (Proverbs 3:5)
Don't cherish sin in our heart. (Psalm 66:18)
Do God's will from your heart. (Ephesians 6:6)
GET A HEART TRANSPLANT! It will save your life!

Who's Your Daddy?
Father's Day is the perfect time to remember that we have a father in Jesus Christ.
For those of you that have never had a relationship with your biological father (like me) or have recently lost a father that was the center of your world, I have some encouraging words for you! GOD LOVES YOU and is the "Ultimate Father"! Isaiah 44:2 tells us that "I am your creator. You were in my care even before you were born." God knows everything about us and desires to have a loving fatherly relationship with us. All we have to do is let him in!
One of my favorite praise songs goes like this:
He knows my name.
He knows my every thought.
He sees each tear that falls
and he hears me when I call.
Remember, you are not an accident! That's my favorite chapter in "The Purpose Driven Life" by Rick Warren. In Chapter 2 there is a poem by Russell Kelfer that reminds me of God's love and that he knew me before I was born.
You are who you are for a reason.
You're part of an intricate plan.
You're a precious and perfect unique design,
Called God's special woman or man.
You look like you look for a reason.
Our God made no mistake.
He knit you together within the womb,
You're just what he wanted to make.
The parents you had were the ones he chose,
And no matter how you may feel,
They were custom-designed with God's plan in mind,
And they bear the Master's seal.
No, the trauma you faced was not easy.
And God wept that it hurt you so;
But it was allowed to shape your heart
So that into his likeness you'd grow.
You are who you are for a reason,
You've been formed by the Master's Rod.
You are who you are, beloved,
Because there is a God!

Forgetting The Past
Here's something I wrote months ago and wasn't sure why. Now that I'm an official blogger, my prayer is that someone out there in cyberspace will hear Christ though this message. Enjoy!

Philippians 3:12-14 says "I do not mean that I am already as God wants me to be. I have not yet reached that goal, but I continue trying to reach it and make it mine. Christ wants me to do that, which is the reason he made me his. Brothers and sisters, I know that I have not yet reached that goal, but there is one thing I always do. FORGETTING THE PAST AND STRAINING TOWARD WHAT IS AHEAD. I keep trying to reach the goal and get the prize for which God called me through Christ to life above."
Even in what the world would consider to be Paul’s depths of despair, he kept his eyes on Jesus. What an example of commitment to service! Picture yourself in jail cell...not a cell that exists today, but a cell that is damp...a cell where your floor is dirt. Limited light, an unmistakable odor of men who haven’t bathed in days. That’s what I imagine Paul’s living conditions to be like. Yet, while in prison, he not only gave thanks...he expressed joy, remained committed to serving Jesus, and continued to spread the gospel.
In our walk through life, many of us would say we have lived in our own personal prisons. Prisons of circumstance, hurt, deceit, unfaithfulness, adultery, abuse. I’d venture to say many of us didn’t give thanks or express joy. Many of us probably questioned why? I know I did. I’m a good person. How can this be happening to me? I don’t deserve this.
The truth is that when you choose to follow Jesus, your life is no longer your own. You become a new creation in him. 2nd Corinthians 5:17 tells us "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation, the old has gone, the new has come.
When you accept the Lord into your heart to become your personal savior, your sins are forgiven. 1 John 1:9 tells us if we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. The problem is we don’t always allow him to do the necessary cleansing. We try to pick and choose what we will let go of in our past. We hold onto baggage which can hinder us from focusing on Jesus.
Isaiah 43:18 tells us we must "forget the former things; do not dwell on the past". If the Lord is willing to forget our past, shouldn’t we allow ourselves to do the same?
I believe there are three things as Christians we must do to forget the past. The first is to confront the past. When you suppress the past, you are unable to live in the present and cannot focus on the future. In essence, your strength as a Christian is stifled and you are unable to honor Christ in your daily walk because you are spending the majority of time shuffling the skeletons in your closet.
By not confronting the past, double-mindedness sets in. You continue to try to do things on your own without allowing the Lord to handle things for you. You try to deal with your skeletons and become confused and indecisive. This state of double mindedness keep you from walking by faith in God. Instead of producing fruits of the spirit as outlined in Galations 5 (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control) you are wallering in doubt and unbelief. Seek wisdom from the Lord to see you through.
James 1:5-8 says that if you need wisdom, ask God for it and he will give it generously. He loves to give to his people. The only condition is that you not have doubt and unbelief. Doubt and unbelief can lead to separation from God. When you live in this state you are unable to see and understand the full magnitude of God and his promises.
Once you confront the past, you must confess it. Ask the Lord for forgiveness and strength to move forward. By confession, sin is placed under the cleansing blood of Jesus Christ. Philippians 4:13 tells us that we can do all things through Christ because he will give us strength. Thank God we serve a forgiving savior. "And their sins and inequities will I remember no more" Hebrews 10:17. We are reassured that through confession with a pure heart we are redeemed.
Consider this....someone once said "The present must forget the past by correction, or else the past will become a moral and spiritual liability for the future.
The third thing we must do to forget the past is have courageous control. Courage is defined as the strength of heart and mind to confront an opponent with the confidence that you will ultimately succeed. Satan is our opponent. We must learn to control his lies. Satan is real. He will try to inhabit your mind by reminding you of your past. As Christians, we are confronted by Satan everyday. It’s not uncommon for him to try and divert your thoughts from Christ and overwhelm you with feelings of inadequacy. We are in a spiritual warfare!
The good news is that because you are a child of God, you have the tools needed to overcome the evil one. You have God’s word! It is your sword and your shield against Satan’s lies! Ephesians 6:10 tells us to use the shield of faith which can stop all the burning arrows of the evil one. Verse 11 says that we should accept God’s salvation as our helmet and take the sword of the spirit which is God’s word. This is our protection!
As Christians we must not walk in fear or in the past. We must be courageous. Being courageous means calling out to Jesus who is always there to rescue us. As believers, our desire should be to become more like Christ in all that say and do. We should want to respond with gentleness and compassion. We should strive to run the race as Paul describes in Philippians. Our goal is heaven. Don’t let your past failures and hurts keep you running the race and crossing the finish line in heaven!

First Time Blogger
I've always told myself I would never become a blogger. In fact, I'm not sure how long it will last...but I'm going to give it a try. I was inspired by a few bloggers at church who I subscribe to and read their postings daily. (Kevin, Karen, and Kaylee) Not only do they share God's word, they share their heart and touch the lives of others.
I've been subscribing to http://www.christnotes.org/ for months now. If you sign up, they email you a bible verse everyday. I try to start my morning that way to keep my mind focused on Christ. My goal in setting up this blog is that I can share scripture with you daily.
Today's scripture is Mark 11:24
"Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours."
WOW! This scripture reminds me that I need to have faith that the Lord hears my prayers and be faithful to him by reading the Bible and praising him daily. According to John McArthur, this verse tell us how there is no limits on our prayers as long as we are living in God's will and purpose. We can't be in his will if we are not plugged into the word, not going to church regularly, and not seeking his face. When we accept Christ as our savior, there must be a change in our life. We don't want our old life. We strive to be Christ like. Striving to be like him puts a desire in our heart to be plugged in! If you are not plugged in...start today!!!
Have a blessed day!!
